Board of Directors


JOAN CASSELS
Joan graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee and continued her education at Florida State University where she received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Spanish with additional graduate work in the area of Humanities. Most of her professional career has been in the field of education, teaching Spanish and Humanities at the high school, community college, and the university levels. While teaching in high school, she was named Teacher of the Year and was also awarded Spanish Teacher of the Year for the State of Florida. She has traveled extensively throughout the world, and she has developed travel/study programs to Europe and Latin America for many years and has led numerous academic tours for students as well as cultural tours for adults. She recently retired from Florida State University where she was a faculty member and served as Assistant Director of International Programs. Joan and husband, Leon, have been long-time members of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee. They have four daughters, four sons-in-law, and two grandsons.

GARY GRIFFIN
Gary, B.S., is a graduate from Florida State University with a degree in meteorology. He retired after many years of service from the US Treasury Department and has been enrolled as a student at the Center for Biblical Studies. He has served as a Deacon and an Elder at Faith Presbyterian Church as well as a lay preacher at the Seafarer's Chapel at Shell Point and in several Tallahassee area assisted living facilities. He is an avid long distance runner and Master Gardener.

DARLENE HEINRICH
Darlene Heinrich, Ph.D., earned her B.S. in Elementary Education at the State University of New York at Geneseo, her M.S. in Educational Research at Bucknell University, and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at Florida State University. She also received a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Holmes College of the Bible. Darlene was the co-Founder and initial Director of the Center for Biblical Studies and is currently serving as a Senior Management Analyst II in Planning and Evaluation for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.

HERB McRAE
Herb is a long-time resident of Tallahassee and a former business owner in partnership with his wife, Carol. He is a member of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church and enjoys serving the young church in a variety of ways. He leads a weekly Bible study for his Good Samaritan home group and is involved in two small study groups for men. He has been fascinated with the Beatitudes since surrendering his life to Christ and has written the book "The TRUTH Revealed in the Eight Beatitudes".

EMILY MOORE
Emily Moore, J.D., earned her B.A. at Agnes Scott College and her J.D. at Florida State University College of Law. Emily has worked with the Florida Division of Retirement, Florida Department of Management Services, Office of the General Counsel; the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, Office of the Secretary; the Florida Department of Business Regulation; and the Advocacy center for Persons with Disabilities. She serves as Staff Counsel with the Florida Education Association, Legal Services Department. With her husband, Bishop Darrin Rich, she coordinates the Deeper Life Christian Center, a book-chapter-verse Bible-based training ministry.

W. FREDERICK THOMSON
Fred, a CPA, managed a Public Accounting practice in Tallahassee for many years. He specialized in forensic accounting, particularly in the area of family law, and personal financial planning services. He was designated a Personal Financial Specialist and Accredited in Business Valuation by the AICPA. He holds the designation as a Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and is an Accredited Estate Planner by the NAEPC. Formerly he was a Certified Biblical Conciliator as designated by Peacemaker Ministries. He operates Thomson Consulting which primarily provides estate planning, personal financial planning and consulting services. Fred has served on the Board of Directors and been President of Easter Seals of Tallahassee, Tallahassee Chapter of the American Red Cross, Live the Life Ministries in Tallahassee, and the Community Foundation of North Florida. He currently serves on the Board of A Women's Pregnancy Center in Tallahassee. Fred is on the teaching faculty at Wildwood Church (PCA) and the Center for Biblical Studies. In addition to Biblical instruction, his special areas of interest include community spiritual transformation, restoration of covenant marriage, biblical conflict resolution, mentoring younger men, and providing biblical financial counsel.

IVEY WILLIAMS III
Pastor Ivey Williams, B.S., earned his in Speech Communications from FSU. He is a Counselor/Advisor and Coordinator for the Florida College Preparatory Program (C-PREP) at Florida A & M University, and is ordained in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Lagos, Nigeria). He is the founding USA coordinator of the Throneroom Trust Prophetic Prayer Ministry of North America.

Matthew Mark Carter II, J.D., Ph.D.
Matthew Carter is an Independent Senior Consultant, providing professional consulting services to corporate, small businesses and non-profit organizations on renewable energy, telecommunications and governmental affairs. He is also the International Evangelist In Residence for Carter Ministries, Inc. He is a gifted Christian Evangelist, speaker and writer for workshops, conferences, seminars, revivals and other events. For the last ten years, he has served as an evangelist and speaker for conferences, workshops and worship services in the United States, the Caribbean, and Central America. As International Evangelist In Residence, he is responsible for providing Christian worship services, ministry teaching and missions to Israel (the Holy Land).

Matthew earned a Master's degree in Theological Science from Smith Chapel Bible University, a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Christian Ministry from Gulf Coast College & Seminary, and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the St. Thomas Christian College. He served as Senior Pastor of the Beulah Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Gretna, Florida, where he formerly served as President of the Congress of Christian Education (Union Baptist Association) and Vice Moderator for the Gadsden County Baptist Association (Southern Baptist Convention).

In addition to serving as Senior Pastor for Beulah Hill, Matthew is an evangelist and guest lecturer on Bible-based financial matters. He is a bi-vocational pastor for Beulah Hill, who was appointed to the Florida Public Service Commission for a four-year term. Commissioner Carter subsequently was elected Chairman by his fellow commissioners. In his capacity as Commission Chairman, Matthew served on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Committees on Water, Critical Infrastructure, and International Relations. As Chairman, he was also active in NARUC activities designed to improve regulated companies' minority business procurement practices.

Matthew is a graduate of Florida State University, undergraduate and law school. He is an attorney and has been a member of the Florida Bar for many years.

ED WITTER
Ed met the Lord as a freshman in college and after serving in the U.S. Navy received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. He worked as a consulting engineer in the Atlanta area for many years fourteen years before moving to Tallahassee where he was part owner of a small manufacturing business. He has taken several courses at the Center for Biblical Studies and is a member of Wildwood Church where he serves on the Finance Committee. He and his wife, Sally, have three children and one grandchild.

CENTER PRESIDENT: Mrs. Jo Anne Arnett
Jo Anne is President and Co-Founder of the Center for Biblical Studies, a venture in faith and servant ministry to the Body of Christ. It is her desire to be fully available to the Lord; to allow Him to live and move through her in a way that will bring Him honor; to let Him choose the "what, when, where and how" of her life; and to be rightly related to others. Jo Anne serves on the Board of Directors of Mission Tallahassee, and of Pray Tallahassee. She is an active member of her church, Prayer Coordinator for the U.S. Strategic Prayer Network and a member of the Tallahassee Pastor's Council. She is married to Joe and has two children and five grandchildren.

MEMBER EMERITUS: Joe Arnett
Joe is a professional engineer with an extensive knowledge of the business world. He came to this region to found Quincy Fibers and later served as President of Engineering Investigations; a business in forensic engineering. He is an active member of his congregation, teaches a Bible Study for men, is a member of the vestry, and has faithfully served a variety of leadership roles within the church. He is an avid reader, has a major interest in history, and has written an extensive volume on the Civil War.

MARIAN S. JOHNSON
Marian is currently the co-Pastor of River of Life Church of God in Starke, FL, and is the founding president and present CEO of GRACE Restoration Ministries, Inc. Marian is also serving as the Director of the Altrusa Chamber of Commerce.




MEMBER EMERITUS: Angela Poole
Angela Poole, B.A., her dgreee in Accounting and Business Administration from Florida A&M University, and her M.Acc. from Florida State University. She received an honorarable Doctorate of Divinity from the International Association of Independent Clergy in recognition of her contributions to the church in the areas of ministry administration and leadership. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors at the Center for Biblical Studies, she is also on the Boards of Keiser College, Stronger Faster Smarter Foundation, Inc., Southeast Community Builders, Inc., and the City of Tallahassee Audit Committee.

MEMBER EMERITUS: Joan West
Joan West, M.A., earned her A.B. in English Literature at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, an M.M. in Music History at Florida State University, and an M.A. in Classical Philosophy at the University of Delaware. In addition to her work on the Board of Directors for Center for Biblical Studies, she currently serves on the following boards: Florida Heritage Foundation; Tallahassee Music Guild; The Artist Series; The Museum of Art Angels, Inc.; and The National Museum of Women in the Arts Florida Committee.
